CA+inD Summer Externship Program for SNU students 2023: Multimodal Global Leaders Development through Asian-Model Dentistry Consortium.
The Tohoku University Graduate School of Dentistry held the CA+inD Summer Externship Program (for Seoul National University) 2023 from September 4 (Monday) to September 15 (Friday), 2023. This program is part of the CAMPUS Asia Plus Program, which belongs to the Inter-University Exchange Project established by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT).
The most important aim of this program is to nurture multimodal global leaders, that is, individuals who are capable of selecting and applying knowledge and skills acquired from a multitude of perspectives, in a manner appropriate to the needs of education, research, health care, industry, and government, while also understanding how these different contexts interact.
Two students from Seoul National University in South Korea participated in this program.
During the two-week program, five hospital tours, lectures by our professors, a classroom tour, and a dental photography workshop were conducted. During the hospital tours, Dr. Kamano (Conservative Dentistry), Dr. Tagaino (Prosthodontics), Dr. Sakisaka (Periodontics), Dr. Chiba (Pediatrics), and Dr. Kitaura (Orthodontics) introduced and explained their respective fields and units. In addition, Dr. Juan of the Division for Globalization Initiative offered a dental photography workshop, teaching participants how to take photos necessary for dental research by actually using a camera and light, etc. In addition, as a cultural event, the participants went on a day trip to Ichinoseki and Chusonji. In addition to the six TUIDSO members, four Tohoku Dentistry students were actively involved in the program, going to lunch with SNU participants and taking them sightseeing in Sendai as “Lunch Volunteers.” The participants also said that they would like to come back to Tohoku University in the future because they were able to interact with Tohoku University students, who contributed greatly to building a network of future dentists.
