Assistant Professor Haruka Sasaki (Division of Dento-oral Anesthesiology) received the 35th Encouragement Award from the Japanese Association for Oral Biology. This prize awards outstanding papers in basic dental medicine and related fields. The award ceremony and lecture were held at the 65th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Association for Oral Biology on September 18, 2023, in Tokyo, Japan.
The paper "Melatonin MT₂ receptor is expressed and potentiates contraction in human airway smooth muscle" revealed that melatonin, the sleeping hormone of which blood concentration soars at midnight, impacts exacerbating asthma symptoms and attenuated broncho-dilating medications.
