On August 17 – 28, 2023, Tohoku University Graduate School of Dentistry held the 2023 CA+inD Summer Short-term Exchange Program: Multimodal Global Leaders Development through Asian-Model Dentistry Consortium. This program is part of the CAMPUS Asia Plus Program. CAMPUS Asia Plus Program is the part of Inter-University Exchange Project established by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT).

The aims of this program to nurture multimodal global leaders, that is, individuals who are capable of selecting and applying knowledge and skills acquired from a multitude of perspectives, in a manner appropriate to the needs of education, research, health care, industry, and government, while also understanding how these different contexts interact.

A total of 32 students from eight universities in six countries/regions participated in this program: From the CA+inD partner universities, students from Yonsei University (5 students) and Seoul National University (5) in Korea, Universitas Indonesia (6) and Chulalongkorn University (2) in Thailand; From the partner universities, students from the University of Hong Kong (2), Universitas Airlangga in Indonesia (6), Kaohsiung Medical University in Taiwan (3), and Wuhan University in China (3) participated in the program, making this program more international.

During the two-week program, the students attended lectures by our faculty, in-person hospital tours, classroom visits, and workshops conducted by GC Corporation. They also participated in cultural experiences and exchanges such as " Wadaiko (Japanese Drums) Workshop" by KAMO TSUNAMURA DAIKO, two one-day bus trips (to Zao & Kaminoyama, and to Ginzan Onsen & Yamadera), and TUIDSO events to deepen relationships with Tohoku University students and local people. In particular, after the "Wadaiko Workshop," all students participated in the "Izumi Ward Citizens Furusato Festival" and enjoyed interacting with the people of Sendai. We also added a new homestay option, and two students were impressed by the generous support of their host families. The 10 student supporters/volunteers were actively involved in the program, and we were able to implement a program that will greatly contribute to building a network of future dentists.
