Ninety percent of cancer patient deaths are attributed to metastasis. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop ultra-early diagnosis and treatment methods for metastasis. In this field, we aim to develop systems for ultra-early diagnosis and treatment of lymph node metastasis, which is observed in many cancers. We will conduct preclinical studies and apply them to clinical practice by making full use of several sensitive and accurate imaging methods such as bioluminescence imaging, contrast-enhanced ultrasound imaging, micro-CT, and genomic analysis methods such as single-cell RNA-seq analysis and exome analysis.

Topics of Research

  • Mechanisms of lymph node mediated hematogenous metastasis
  • Lymphatic Drug Delivery System (LDDS) targeted at metastatic lymph nodes using nanoparticles
  • Assessment of treatment for lymph node metastasis using noninvasive multimodal in vivo imaging techniques such as high-frequency ultrasound, bioluminescence, micro X-ray computerized tomography (CT) and small animal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
  • Mechanisms of activation of tumor cells in distant organs after dissection of lymph nodes
