After a year of deliberation, Dr. Roan S. Pechayco (a former Doctoral student from the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery & Department of Oral Physiology) won the IADR Geriatric Oral Research Group’s The GC Pre-Doctoral Award (First Prize) at the IADR 99th General Session & Exhibition Virtual Meeting. She received a certificate and a cash prize. This award is given to graduate students and researchers with a valuable contribution to the future of geriatric oral health.

In the study, ovariectomized rats were used, and the effects of MPMBP on the mandibular condyle, mainly focusing on osteoclastogenesis, were assessed. Also, it was explained how the novel bisphosphonate MPMBP could improve estrogen deficiency-induced condylar fragility and increase condylar bone mineral density, suggesting that MPMBP may decrease the risk or improve TMJOA, postmenopausal-osteoporosis-related TMDs, and other inflammatory bone disorders.
