2023 CA+inD Spring Short-Term Outbound Program

For two weeks between March 11 (Mon) and March 29 (Fri), 2024, the Tohoku University Graduate School of Dentistry conducted the "2023 CA+inD Spring Short-Term Outbound Program," for which it sent thirteen undergraduate students to its CA+inD partner universities.
This program is part of the CAMPUS Asia Plus Program, which is part of the Inter-University Exchange Project established by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT). The aim of this program is to nurture multimodal global leaders, that is, individuals who are capable of selecting and applying knowledge and skills acquired from a multitude of perspectives, in a manner appropriate to the needs of education, research, health care, industry, and governance, while also understanding how these different contexts interact.

Thirteen students from the first to the fifth year of the School of Dentistry participated in this program. Five students were sent to Seoul National University and Yonsei University in Korea, five to Chiang Mai University and Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, and three to Universitas Indonesia. During the two-week program, the students participated in lectures, hospital visits, and various cultural experiences coordinated by the staff of the host institutions.

The students from the partner universities who participated in the short-term inbound program in FY2022 and FY2023 frequently interacted with the Tohoku students, taking them out to eat and showing them around the city, which made the program very satisfying for the participating students. Although the program was only two weeks long, all the outbound students reflected deeply on the differences in dental care, dental education, and culture between Japan and the destination countries, and we felt that they made great progress. The fact that all the students were able to spend a fulfilling period of study abroad was a valuable experience that will contribute to their future.
